Who are you supporting when you vote for me?

Many years ago, I was given some sage advice; order your duties to God, to Family and to Country. I have since learned that if you get the duty to God correct, the other two naturally fall into place. I am very fortunate to have the support and counsel of my wife of 32 years and our two children in this endeavor. Let's see if I can win your support.

My dad was a bread delivery man and my mom worked in textiles and automotive manufacturing. I have seen firsthand the emotional toll plant closings have on workers and their families. My mom lost both jobs due to plant closings, the last when she was 64 and 9 months old. I have seen lives turned upside down when a large plant in a rural area closes. The threat to our East Tennessee workforce isn't immigration, it is the continuing hemorrhage of jobs from our region.

Our national government looks at it as collateral damage. As long as unemployment stays low, and jobs are created in other regions then America breaks even. This isn't isolated to manufacturing. Retail, healthcare and hospitality all suffer from the same threat of downsizing and closures. I don't know about you, but I would like to play for better odds than breaking even, especially in East Tennessee.

As a mechanical engineer, classically trained at the University of Tennessee, I have spent most of my career trying to keep manufacturing competitive in Tennessee and Southwestern Virginia across multiple industries. Regardless of the industry, people are working hard to create a future for themselves. Wouldn't it be refreshing to see the parties working as hard for their communities and nation as we do? How valuable are we to them when they only call on us on April 15th, every second Tuesday in November and in their insatiable need for donations?

We do not have dominion over that which is more powerful than us. Fortunately, the earth, in its perfection, is stronger than humankind. If we want to exert dominion as opposed to stewardship, we are in for disastrous outcomes. Legislation should prioritize conservation of remaining resources, research into the next generation resources, sustainable agriculture and manufacturing practices.

All humankind was created in God's image. Failure to recognize anyone as anything less misses the mark. Our founders phrased it this way in the Declaration of Independence - "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Legislation should reflect the equality ordained by God and the proclamation of the Founders. We are one nation not two political parties.

The Constitution is the law of the land. All aspects of our governance resides in it except for one, the establishment of political parties. Actually, the Founders were hoping to avoid what we are living through. The two party system requires allegiance to a party, not to the country. The Constitution is clear on the responsibilities of the three branches. Legislation should be for the good of the republic, the promotion of all its people, defense of our sovereignty, and upholding the Bill of Rights.

How will I vote?

Good news. I will not blindly support a party. Instead, I will use the lens of East Tennessee to determine what legislation is best for us. Let's introduce some controversy for our straight ticket voters. Sometimes both parties present suitable solutions for the people of East Tennessee, seldom at the same time though. Aren't you ready to see legislation that helps secure your future instead of a political party? To be Constitutional, legislation must align with the teachings found in the Gospels.

It is time to restore security to the working folks in America. It is very difficult to debate the issues that confront us when our largest population's economy is frozen and the smallest population's inaccessible economy is growing at record pace. Don't confuse my concern for working Americans as an unwillingness to address the societal needs of our nation. It is time to move to The Plan.
